Oezdemir tested positive for erythropoietin (EPO), a Prohibited Substance in the class of Peptide Hormones, Growth Factors, Related Substances, and Mimetics of the UFC Prohibited List. EPO was detected in both urine and blood samples collected out-of-competition from Oezdemir on February 16, 2026, and March 5, 2026, in Le Mouret, Switzerland. Oezdemir provided extensive cooperation to both Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD) and Swiss law enforcement authorities. This cooperation included evidence that Oezdemir was contacted unsolicited by a local pharmacist, who convinced him that he could improve his performance with the use of EPO and that the UFC Anti-Doping Program would not be able to detect it. After considering all of the evidence, including that Oezdemir did not seek out EPO and the level of transparency that Oezdemir demonstrated throughout the investigation, CSAD determined that a reduced sanction of sixteen (16)-months was appropriate.
